Gorilla Safaris Uganda

Gorilla Safaris Uganda take place in Bwindi Impenetrable forest and Mgahinga Gorilla Park. They are both in South west Uganda. Mgahinga lies in the far south west in the Virunga volcanoes.

Bwindi Impenetrable Forest.

Bwindi Forest is a world heritage site by United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation. This forest alone has four sectors for gorilla trekking and these are; Ruhija, Buhoma, Nkuringo and Rushaga. And each sector has several gorilla families. Out of about 1063 gorilla individuals remaining in the wild, more than half reside in Bwindi Forest making it the best place for gorilla trekking.

Mgahinga Gorilla National park

This park lies in the south west of Uganda in the Virunga volcanoes. It is home to mountain gorillas and some other primates including the golden monkey. Golden monkey trekking also takes place here. Its strategic location in the Virunga volcanoes indeed makes it famous for hiking the three volcanoes; Sabinyo, Muhabura and Mufumbira. The cost of gorilla trekking permits in Mgahinga is USD 700 each.

Volcanoes National Park

Volcanoes National Park is just 1.5 hours drive from Kigali the capital of Rwanda. It is therefore perfect for those who have limited time but want to see gorillas in their natural habitat. Here you trek gorillas and golden monkeys, hike Bisoke and Karisimbi volcanoes. Other things to do include exploring the Musanze caves, experience the Rwandan culture by Gorilla guardians village among others. Gorilla permits in Rwanda cost USD 1500 each.

It is important to know that this price can go down if you book more excursions in Rwanda’s National parks. In order to qualify for this discount, you have to present proof of booking in other parks. It is for this reason that we recommend 3 or more days in this land of 1000 hills. That said, you can easily do a two countries combined safari in just one trip. This means that you can fly into Rwanda and later drive to Uganda. Note that Uganda has more to offer when it comes to wildlife experiences.
