Bwindi Forest is a world heritage site by United Nations Educational,Scientific and Cultural Organisation. This forest alone has four sectors for gorilla trekking and these are; Ruhija, Buhoma, Nkuringo and Rushaga. And each sector has several gorilla families. Out of about 1063 gorilla individuals remaining in the wild, about half of them reside on Bwindi Forest making it the best place for gorilla trekking.
Mgahinga Gorilla National park
This paek lies in the south west of Uganda in the Virunga volcanoes. The park is home to mountain gorillas and some other primates including the golden monkey. Golden monkey trekking also takes place here. Its strategic location in the Virunga volcanoes makes it famous for hiking the three volcanoes; Sabinyo, Muhabura and Mufumbira. The cost of gorilla trekking permits for this park also cost USD 700 each.
Volcanoes National Park
Situated about 1.5 hours drive from Kigali the capital of Rwanda, Volcanoes National park is the perfect place for those who have limited time but want to see gorillas in their natural habitat. Here you trek gorillas and golden monkeys, hike Bisoke and Karisimbi volcanoes. Other things to do include exploring the Musanze caves, experience the Rwandan culture by Gorilla guardians village among others. Gorilla permits in Rwanda cost USD 1500 each.
